The US could nationalize the privately-owned defense industry and use the funds to rebuild the nation. This would not only build up our nation’s real developmental status (according to the UN the US has slipped down 11 places this year to 43rd out of 193 nations in overall ranking of developed nations as to quality of life for their population.), it would also de-incentivize the proliferation of weapons for war, de-incentivize the creation of enemies, while it would greatly uplift the quality of life of all Americans.
The exceptions, of course, those who would not benefit, are the investors in the war industry who are among the most powerful and influential people in the nation. Also the politicians who are financially rewarded for their support before and after leaving office. And, of course, the neo-cons, many of whom run our State Department and determine US policy. They would have their war-making ability completely de-fanged.
On the benefit side of nationalizing the privately owned defense industries: Other nations of the world would possibly no longer hate the US (which has invaded 15 other nations since 1980), and would be more likely to respect us once again. Perhaps the US could then apply for membership in what is known as the BRICS nations which are working for the peaceful cooperative development in all nations and the uplifting of the quality of life for all peoples of the world.
….Oh, never mind.
It was only a thought.
